Instagram DM links and QR code source tracking
Make a unique Instagram DM link and QR code for your business card, stories, and YouTube description, so you know where each follower came from when they message you.
Source tracking links
Make a unique Instagram DM link and QR code for each place you share it (business cards, stories, YouTube descriptions…). When followers tap it and send a message, we record where they came from automatically.
Create a link
Give it a name (e.g. “Business card QR”) and choose an Instagram account. A unique link is created automatically.
Share it
Copy the link into stories or descriptions, or download the QR code to print on business cards and signs.
Followers tap to DM you
The link opens a DM with your Instagram account, and the source is recorded as soon as they send the first message.

Each link tracks its own conversation count and 30-day total, and contacts are marked with their source link.
What it does
No more guessing where new followers came from — the numbers show which channel brings the most DMs, so your marketing budget goes where it counts.
Tip
- Without a short-link domain, Instagram links only open in the Instagram mobile app (it's normal that they don't open on a computer). Once it's set up, the same link works anywhere — phones open the Instagram app and computers open Instagram on the web.
- If the same follower taps the link again after 24 hours, it counts as a new conversation — the 30-day count reflects activity.
- A link that's turned off still opens a regular DM — it just stops recording the source. Delete it once you're sure you don't need it.
Where to put your links
Use one link per source so your numbers stay separate. Common places:
In person: business cards / signs / package inserts
Download the QR code as a PNG to print. Customers who scan it go straight to your Instagram DMs.
Online: stories / link stickers
Add a link sticker to your story so viewers can DM you with one tap.
Other platforms: YouTube / blog / LINE
Put the link in descriptions or posts to track traffic from other platforms too.
What it does
Compare conversation numbers across links to see which channel is worth doubling down on.
Tip
- Don't post the same link in lots of places — the numbers get mixed together and you can't tell what's working.
